Word of the Day | Pump & Dump

A pump and dump is a strategy that some traders use in the markets. In this strategy, a group of people or even a single individual (usually the owners and their co-conspirators) artificially increases the price of a particular cryptocurrency they already own by spreading positive or misleading information about it.
This creates hype and excitement among other traders and investors, causing them to buy the cryptocurrency, driving up its price. Once the price has been artificially inflated to a desired level, the individuals or group behind the pump and dump scheme sell their holdings in large quantities, causing the price to plummet.
As a result, those who bought the cryptocurrency during the pump phase experience significant losses.
In simple terms "Pump & Dump" is a manipulative tactic where an asset's price is artificially inflated to lure others into buying it, only for the perpetrators to sell their holdings and profit while leaving others with losses, holding a worthless asset.
