Realise your Dreams

Picture this:
You’re at a friend’s birthday party, chatting with some acquaintances. You’ve known each other for years, and every time you meet, the conversations are about similar subjects.
First, everyone shares how they are doing, which is pretty predictable because hardly anything has changed in the past 10 years. Wives or husbands may have changed, children have grown older, occupations may vary, but nothing truly exciting.
Then some might share about their holidays, trying to brighten up the mood.
And occasionally, you meet people who lead a more adventurous lifestyle.
But hardly ever do people talk about their dreams at these gatherings.
A few weeks ago, at a party, I decided to ask people about their dreams.
I asked, "What is that one dream that has been with you since you were a child?”
And if they had an answer to this first question, I followed up with, "Have you acted on making that dream come true?"

I was astounded by the number of people who didn’t have a dream at all — they couldn’t even remember their childhood dreams.
These were all well-educated, bright, and curious people, and still, they had been sucked into the rat race. Most of their thoughts seemed to revolve around paying bills and keeping up with the Joneses.
At least, that’s what I gathered from their answers.
It might sound a bit harsh the way I’m speaking about these people, but trust me — I truly love and appreciate each and every one of them.
What I don’t understand is how people can live without a dream, even if it's just a small one — like wanting to visit a theme park, or spending more quality time with their loved ones. (And honestly, that last one is actually a pretty big dream in my opinion.)
I truly believe that having dreams makes life so much more interesting.
Some people dream about making the whole world a better place — and they do what they can to make those dreams come true.
But dreams don’t have to be grand and captivating; there is nothing wrong with simply wanting to make *your* own world a better place.
Why have we forgotten about our dreams?
At that party, I realised how lucky I am to be working with all the amazing people I meet through my work at DBM.
I feel very privileged to work with people who want to realise their dreams, who won’t take no for an answer, and who are willing to take the unbeaten path.
And I am so proud of all of you who are well on your way to achieving your dream, because you have truly taken on the *response-ability* for your life!
